The “land of the dawn-lit mountains” Arunachal Pradesh is a well kept secret state of Northeast India, tucked away amidst the surreal Himalayas, mystical forests and breathtaking and wild landscapes unlike any other.

We start our 5 nights 6 days Trip to Ziro from Guwahati. Guwahati is known as  'the city of Eastern Light' and it stands on the southern banks of mighty river Brahmaputra. It is the capital of Assam and gateway to the entire north-eastern states. It is surrounded by hills and the Brahmaputra river, rich and diverse flora and fauna enhance its natural scenic beauty. Bhalukpong is a small town which is the gateway to the western side of Arunachal Pradesh. It lies on the border of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh and is surrounded by captivating hills and forests. Bhalukpong is famous for its river “Kameng” which flows through the Bhalukpong Valley and is one of the most beautiful rivers of Arunachal Pradesh. Itanagar has a perfect blend of modern city with the writings of a world long gone and it is still inhabited by many indigenous tribes and you can experience both Hindu and buddhist culture in beautiful harmony here. A drive to Ziro (5600 ft) along the lush tropical mountain scenery as you pass through the Nishi villages and also see the mithuns (relatives of the sacred Indian cow). Arrive into Ziro, home of the little-known Apatani tribe and get your cameras ready for photos and ears wide open to hear tribal stories. You can learn about the ingenious system of 'pisci-culture' where villagers breed fish and grow rice within the same plot of land. Also visit Hapoli township to witness the local market and also visit the Tarin fish farm, a beautiful high altitude fish breeding farm and the Museum.

A visit to the nearby Hong village is also on the cards,  which is the largest tribal village in Asia, where you will get a rare and privileged insight into a medieval world and witness the Apatani culture.

The ideal time to visit Arunachal Pradesh would be during summers i.e. April to June where the valley comes alive with wildflowers and greenery and weather is pleasant. If you want to experience Arunachal Pradesh during winters, October to February is the best time to experience snow covered landscapes and mountains. Ziro Valley is known for its unique and sustainable farming. The Apatani tribe practices wet rice cultivation without using animals or machines. They also raise fish in the same fields — a method called pisci-culture. Their wooden homes are built on stilts using bamboo and timber. Villages are well planned and follow traditional eco-friendly systems. Because of this, Ziro is being considered for UNESCO World Heritage status.

Indian tourists need an Inner Line Permit (ILP) to enter Arunachal Pradesh. Foreigners require a Protected Area Permit (PAP). The nearest airport and railway station is in Guwahati. From there, Ziro is about 12–14 hours by road. Many travelers break the journey at Bhalukpong or Tezpur. Mobile networks are weak in remote areas. Internet may also be patchy. Carry enough cash, as ATMs and UPI may not work in smaller towns and villages.
