Overview

Don’t you feel like running away from the stressful city and looking for a place of seclusion amongst hills and meadows? Well, the place that you might be looking for is Jibhi.

Jibhi is an offbeat destination nestled in the Tirthan Valley in Himachal Pradesh that has remained untouched by the buzzing and agitation that city life thrives upon. Surrounded by lush greenery and pine-covered mountains, this small village has beautifully cascading waterfalls, serene lakes, and delicate meadows making this one of the most peaceful places you will ever visit.

Jibhi also deserves praise for preserving its history and culture as Chehni Kothi, a fortified tower that still stands strong, dates back to the 17th century, and remains one of the most popular attractions among devotees as well as travelers.

We know being surrounded by mountains often fills people with a strong desire to climb them so that they can experience the thrill that comes with being on top which is why we make sure that you get to go on a trek during this trip along with other things that you must do in Jibhi like visiting the Serolsar lake, Jalori Pass, etc because these are some of the must-visit places in Jibhi, Himachal Pradesh.

Situated at an altitude of 3,120 meters above sea level, Jalori Pass offers a breathtaking view of the great Himalayan peaks and it’s the kind of experience that leaves a long-lasting impression on your mind and makes you want to revisit the moment again.

The trek to Serolsar lake is an equally rewarding experience that ends with you unraveling the hidden gem that Himachal keeps hidden behind the thick curtain of its Eden-like forests. To establish a balance between adventure and tranquility on this weekend trip to Jibhi, we also take you for a session of rafting where you get to soar through the sparkling rivers.

Although this quaint village is accessible throughout the year, the best time to visit Jibhi is from November to January as the weather is perfect for getting the most out of this weekend trip. However, Jibhi also has another charm that attracts nature lovers and that is the abundance of apple orchards that bloom in the valley.

However, this phenomenon is reserved for the spring season and if you want to witness the magic of orchard apple trees bearing fruits, then you should visit Jibhi from the month of March to May. There is more to Jibhi than what meets the eye, it is a scenic and old village that has settled on the banks of the Tirthan river.

This gurgling river is a tributary of the Beas river. It serves as an integral part of the culture of Jibhi. Constructed in a Himachali style, the architecture of the place vouches for itself. Most of the houses are built from stone and wood without using cement.

Galgal trees and apple orchards decorate every backyard in the Himalayan village and you can witness the slow-paced lives of people in the way they get on with their daily tasks with the smoke from chimneys blowing early in the morning.

Jibhi has slowly become extremely popular among travelers in recent years because of the abundance of peace it has to offer. However, foreign tourists discovered this gem of a place more than two decades ago. Of course, during that time, there was hardly any infrastructure to boost tourism in Jibhi.

On the same note, Jibhi is still not completely commercialized and remains untouched with most of the accommodations being homestays that are run by locals. The itinerary for the Jibhi Road Trip includes Serolsar Lake Trek which is a high-altitude lake nestled amidst alpine forests. It’s a convenient trek from the Jalori Pass and is surrounded by lush green forests.

The trek leads you to the 360º viewpoint which offers a stunning view of the entire valley along with the Pir Panjal ranges of the Himalayas. Some must-visit places in Jibhi especially if you enjoy mythology and history are Chehni Kothi and Shringa Rishi Temple.

Chehni Kothi is only 9 kilometers away from Jibhi and the majority of the distance can be covered by a car. The road comes to an end almost 1 kilometer away from the Chehni tower and from there on, you've to trek towards the Kothi. It is a steep trek but is equally rewarding as the Chehni Kothi is a spectacular structure.

An interesting fact about Chehni Kothi is that this structure has withheld many environmental changes for more than 3 centuries. Only in the earthquake of 1905 of Kangra, did it lose the upper two stories. Apart from that, the fort has stood the test of time gracefully.

While exploring this place, you’ll pass the Shringha Rishi temple that lies below Chehni at Baggi village. Shringa Rishi is a diety mainly revered in the Banjar Valley. He was a great saint of the Ramayana era. The temple is considered to be extremely sacred by the locals. Another famous place to visit is the Sheshnag Temple. Within Jibhi, a short trail will lead you to the Sheshnag Temple. This is situated right in the middle of a beautiful lush meadow.

Just like Shringa Rishi, Sheshnag is another presiding deity of the Banjar valley. Both enjoy their devotees’ following and worship. Thus, the history of Jibhi itself is extremely fascinating and in the present, it is the ideal weekend getaway for most people who are looking to spend some peaceful moments.

Spending time in the serene, green meadows will definitely calm your senses and make your worries fade away. Although it depends on the kind of landscape you prefer, be it green canopies or ivory mountains, Jibhi remains one of the best weekend trips that you can embark upon and can be accessed throughout the year.
